Pierre Bourdieu is counted among the most prominent and most-cited sociologists of the last seventy years. His work on class and classification, field and habitus, arts and culture, symbolic violence and gender has made an impact far beyond sociology and continues to inspire neighboring disciplines from both the humanities and the social sciences. Especially his early work on Algeria has become the recent focus of a newly invigorated discussion of his body of work. The seminar offers a comprehensive introduction into Bourdieu’s opus and is especially suited for those who as yet have only little to no prior knowledge of Bourdieusian perspectives. The seminar will be held in English.
